Mark Wolff
Principal Industry Consultant & Chief Health Analytics Strategist
Health & Life Sciences Global Practice, SAS Institute

The application of advanced and predictive analytics to address many complex issues in health care has evolved from an opportunity to that of an imperative for the improvement of patient safety, outcomes, costs and operational efficiencies. This imperative is driven, in part, by growth in the digitization and availability of health care data along with changes in social, economic and legislative considerations related to availability, access and quality of care. Sir William Osler famously noted in an address to the New York Academy of Medicine in 1897 that, “When schemes are laid in advance, it is surprising how often the circumstances fit in with them.” One could argue that Dr. Osler was in part laying the ground work for the application of analytics and predictive modeling to improve health care. In this presentation, we will examine the nature of analytics and its role in advancing and improving healthcare with a focus on delivering value now and into the future.
